The Somali Youth Leaders (SYL) is a group of young professionals dedicated to fostering the growth of Somali youth and promoting their active participation in their nation's progress, stability, and democratic processes. Founded in 2020 by like-minded young change agents, SYL emerged in response to the pressing need for activism, education, and awareness. The organization aims to provide young individuals with an enabling environment for learning and honing life skills. Notably, SYL is registered with both the federal government's Ministry of Youth and Sports and the federal member states, underscoring its commitment to expanding its mission and services nationwide.
SYL is rooted in a deep commitment to empower, educate, and mobilize the younger generation of Somalia. Central to SYL's mission are several key objectives, including awareness of global goals. SYL places importance on acquainting its members with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By fostering a broad understanding of these goals, the organization hopes that Somali youth will be equipped to align their local efforts with the broader global vision set for 2030.
Another key objective is advocacy for climate action. Recognizing the alarming climate challenges faced by the Horn of Africa and Somalia in particular, understands the need for proactive environmental protection.
